Hi there, I’m Lara!

Bio

Lara Laurence is a learning specialist with over 30 years of experience in independent schools.  She holds a Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University and another Master's Degree in School Psychology from New York University.  She is trained in the Slingerland Method, a variation of the Orton-Gillingham Method, which offers a comprehensive, multisensory approach to literacy instruction. She has worked as a Learning Specialist at The Spence School, North Shore Hebrew Academy, Solomon Schecter of Nassau County, St. Luke's School (Manhattan) and the Sterling School (Brooklyn) supporting students with a variety of language-based and executive function challenges.  Additionally, she supports students and their parents through the neuropsychological evaluation process.

 

Lara continues to attend professional development workshops, particularly those oriented to learning and the brain, dyslexia, and action-based learning, and she maintains a focus on executive functioning, reading comprehension, written expression, school avoidance, brain development, and the connection of emotions to learning.  Lara is a member of the Tutoring League of New York City.

Lara can also support students learning Hebrew and Spanish.
